Delhi Government announces ‘green’ internship for students

In a bid to inspire young minds to embrace environmental and forestry pursuits, the Delhi government has introduced a novel internship programme. The core objective of this initiative is to offer a brief yet impactful exposure to youth, granting them insights into the diverse operational facets of the Department of Forests and Wildlife under the Government of National Capital Territory of Delhi (GNCTD).

The inauguration of the internship portal, accessible at internship.eforest.delhi.gov.in, took place recently amid the grandeur of the fourth Van Mahotsav ceremony, hosted at the Polo Ground of Delhi University. This training pathway is exclusively available to students aged 18 and above, who are actively enrolled in recognised schools, institutes, and universities.

Prospective candidates are advised to take note that online applications will be considered valid. It is recommended that applications be submitted, preferably three months ahead of the intended internship period. It’s vital to distinctly indicate the desired duration of the internship when applying. As part of the application process, individuals are obliged to present a Statement of Purpose (SoP) within a limit of 1,000 words. Notably, applicants furnishing a well-defined SoP for their internship will be accorded preference in the selection process.

Moreover, the interns will be required to write a paper/detailed account of work done on management of natural resources related themes/issues and of relevance of their work to the department. At the end of the successful completion of internship, the trainees will be awarded a certificate along with a grading based on their performance. However, candidates should bear in mind that no stipend will be paid for this programme.
